Antipsychiatry Rising (APR) was initiated in 2017 by Auntie Psychiatry (who is on hiatus) and Oldhead, and evolved out of wider discussions about creating an antipsychiatry (AP) network that had been taking place earlier that year. The guiding slogan is “Make Psychiatry History.”
Our goal is to “make psychiatry history.” We are an abolitionist antipsychiatry project — though we won’t be browbeating people about using the term “abolition” if they prefer another one.
Membership and decision making for now are restricted to “survivors” (a term which needs to be examined more closely).
The idea behind APR is to unite as broad a spectrum of AP survivors as possible behind some basic principles and demands, which we finished spelling out recently following over a year of intense discussion. It is also a way of bringing together those who already have their own projects, sites, etc. Our initial task is the creation of an AP website to serve as a hub for promoting our goals.
